About the Property
The ancient watchtower of the Castle of Montefiesole – built alongside the castle for defense and observation and dating back to XII Century – has survived the centuries, maintaining its identity intact. With the decline of its military function, starting in the 17th century, the ancient structure was transformed into a country residence by noble Florentine families, giving rise to what is now known as Villa Tassinaia. In 2004, the property was completely renovated by Florentine architect Luca Raddi, who preserved the tower’s medieval architectural features while reinterpreting them with a contemporary language and embellished with refined natural materials such as travertine. The project expertly blended the ancient with the modern, transforming the residence into a bright, charming residence – where historical elements and evident references to the medieval period coexist in perfect balance with modern comforts and functionality. The property is spread over four levels: the entrance opens onto the ground floor with a living room with a fireplace, sofas, and a reading nook; the stairs leading to the upper floors are made of pietra serena stone and feature a modern metal design: on the upper floor, there’s a mezzanine with a versatile space that can be used as a space guest room or, alternatively, a study with an adjacent bathroom. On the upper floor, there’s a large open space with a fully equipped kitchen and dining room. From here, the views of the surrounding countryside from the large windows are incredible. Going further up, we find the master bedroom – with its four-poster bed and the original tower ceiling, as well as a raised terrace overlooking the lake – It truly feels like being in Rapunzel’s bedroom. The en-suite bathroom includes a double Jacuzzi. A tiny straight mansard with its skylightIt overlooks the master bedroom, adding another versatile space that can be used as a study, creative corner, archive, walk-in closet. The tower also has a private outdoor space, a small garden equipped with a barbecue and a pizza oven, two parking spaces and a motorbike space. The Tower of Villa Tassinaia offers a rare and authentic living experience: living inside a medieval tower with almost a thousand years of history, in the quiet of the Tuscan countryside, overlooking the rolling hills of Valdisieve.
