Magnificent château dating from 1264, meticulously restored and listed as a Historic Monument, located just a few kilometers from Châlons-en-Champagne in the Marne department of France. This impressive property encompasses 1,535 square meters of living space, featuring 23 bedrooms and a swimming pool, set within a picturesque estate of 42 acres. The château is conveniently situated 17 kilometers from the nearest train station, providing direct access to Paris. This remarkable château, originally built on the site of an ancient seigniorial house, has undergone numerous transformations throughout its history. Major renovations were undertaken in the early 17th century by Hugues Mathe, who enhanced the estate with a moat, drawbridges, and formal gardens designed by Jean Debar, a pupil of the renowned André Le Nôtre. In 1735, François Jean-Marie Morel, President of the Presidial Court of Châlons-en-Champagne, further restored the château, adding elegant flowerbeds and water features that reflect the original design. Constructed of chalk stone and topped with an Irish purplish slate roof, the château is framed by a moat and features a grand entrance gate flanked by two former dovecotes. The building's classic east-west orientation ensures ample sunlight, with formal gardens to the east and a courtyard to the west. The interior boasts a main entrance with a magnificent double spiral staircase, six salons adorned with wood paneling, and a large, fully-equipped kitchen. The estate includes a north dovecote, currently a fully-equipped gîte, and an unfinished south dovecote, which offers potential for further development. The grounds feature a moat, formal gardens, and inviting forest paths, creating a harmonious environment that reflects the grandeur of the château. Historic Monument Protection: The façades and roofs of the château, the two lower wings of the outbuildings, and the moat and bridges are listed by decree from June 1990.
