FOR CASTLE COLLECTORS
Castle Collector Insights

A historic castle, once belonging to the Joyeuse counts, built in 1685, set within 7 hectares of parklands, located approximately 2½ hours from Paris and Brussels in the Argonne-Ardennaise region of France. This listed property, standing on a rocky spur, offers a commanding view over the surrounding landscape, a strategic advantage since medieval times. The Grandpré castle's rich history is marked by its association with the Joyeuse family, known for their military careers and significant contributions to the region. Major renovations were undertaken in 1685, enhancing the estate with large apartments and stables, financed by the family's military successes. The estate's prominence waned in the 18th century, leading to its requisition during the revolutionary period and subsequent neglect, culminating in a fire that destroyed much of the original structure in 1834. Today, only one pavilion remains, restored to form the current castle. The property features an impressive collection of outbuildings that align the approach to the castle, accessed through a monumental pavilion and a semi-circular arched porchway of the gatehouse. Outbuildings: - Collection of outbuildings along the approach - Gatehouse providing access to the estate Price: €650,000 including fees (paid by the seller).
